6th and 7th Grade Trimester Math Projects

These are some of the most amazing projects!
I would like to post more, but some are in Prezi format and would not link into this blog.
Enjoy.

Liz created a stop motion movie with a math theme.

Elijah used a pattern theme to show how exponets can be broken down into prime factors, he included a fractal of triangles in his project.

Vivien used a fish theme to show patterns, prime factors and exponents. She included how powers of ten and scientific notation use factors and exponents.

Hunter W. used a variety of methods to show prime factorization, patterns and exponents.

Jack used a real world theme to show how to use powers of ten, prime factorization and exponents to calculate the profits from t-shirt sales.

Kym measured the perimeter and area of several squares and rectangles that she arranged in a pattern, then she attempting prime factorization of the final number, which she thinks is a prime number.
(We will have to investigate this number further)

Josie showed how all of the different topics this trimester are connected, see the close up below.

Haley used a Thanksgiving theme to show patterns, prime factorization and exponents.

Jerome created a new iteration of a project that he did with a partner this trimester and added on more to include not only prime factorization, but also patterns, exponents and area and perimeter.

Anna D. used some great patterns to show all of the topics covered this trimester.

Charli-Rei also used several projects created this trimester and combined them into one to shwo how all of the topics work together.

Savannah created an abacus to show how prime factorization is a pattern, and included measurements of area and perimeter of her abacus. The abacus also shows how to do prime factorization and exponents.

Katy used a music theme to show how all of the topics work together.
This was one of the most amazing projects. Katy did prime factorization using a whole note and factorized it down to 1/16 notes. She also created patterns and exponents of the notes.

Ethan showed how patterns are a part of all of the topics.

Caroline used a variety of patterns to show how all of the topics are related.
See a close up below.

Lauren used a previous project and connected it to patterns, exponets and area/perimeter.

Close up of Savannah's abacus, notice the prime factors, 2,3,5,7, etc.

Michelle used a pie theme to show how prime factorization, exponents, powers of ten, scientific notation and patterns can be used to calculate profits from pie sales.

Finally, Alec created a Scratch program to using a sales theme to show how all of the topics can be used together.
Click the link below to see Alec's project.

7th Grade boys hamming it up for the camera

As I took photos of the Prime Factorization projects, this group said "Please take our photo"

Great kids, who love to have fun!!

6th and 7th Grade - Prime Factoriztion projects

Ava's Prime Factorization Movie

Katy, Sarah and Charli-Rei use a football theme for their prime factors.

Jacob and Jerome used a shadow box to make a prime factoriztion game.

Lauren and Savannah listed prime factors around the word PRIME

Anna M. and Kym made a poster showing how to find the prime factors of a number.

Cora used a corn theme to show how prime factorization

Anna D.  and Liz used a card theme to show prime factorization.

Cecelia gave us many examples of how to find the prime factors of several numbers.

This is only a few of many wonderful prime factorization projects produced in 6 and 7 Math this Fall

The Witch and The Moon story 678

Below is the link to my Scratch program that you all saw today.

http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/13226194/

Your assignment is to continue the story...

What will happen to the witch as she flies higher into the atmosphere trying to get to the moon?

What obstacles will be in her way?  What other atmospheric phenomenon will she have to deal with?

What will happen when she gets to the exosphere?

You may remix my Scratch program and use the MakeyMakey.  I will leave the set-up as it is, and have another one available to use.  If you have your own MM please feel free to use it.

Any other media is fine as well, electronic - Prezi, PowerPoint, etc., print, books, posters, etc.

Your story MUST be illustrated!!!

Due date for the project is this Friday November 1st... unless you choose to make a Scratch program.  Scratch programs are due November 8th.

If you create a Scratch account (free) please send me your user name so that I can follow you and help you if needed. You may also follow me and see what I am doing. Also, please share your programs as you are working on them so that I can see what you are doing and give you credit if time runs out.
My Scratch user name is    bluemoon1

Good luck!

The Tsunami in action!!

Video of Haley, Kym and Sarah showing their ocean project on wave action, erosion, sea mounts and polution (the next challenge is to find a way to clean oil spills in water)

Katy explains her ocean project diagram, she included a model of all parts of the ocean, along with a surfer riding waves produced by El Nino.

Ava explains her ocean game with some help to hold it up by Savannah.
Students enjoyed this game with True/False, Multiple Choice and Fill in the Blank questions about the ocean and all that is in, on and under it.

This group had a great idea of showing the concept of how water sticks together, by using magnets, paper lips and bobby pins.

The team with th final product.

Kymberly, Sarah and Charli, show how their lake flows into a marsh by way of a waterfall.

6th Grade Exponents Projects

Students were asked to answer the question:
If you earned an allowance for a month, and on the first day recieved a penny, then the next day and for thirty days your amount doubled everyday, how much money would you have on the 30th of the month?

Below are photos of the work as it progressed and some of the finished products.

All students created some amazing examples of how exponents work!!
