Science Syllabus - 2013-2014

This year you will have the opportunity to work at your own pace.
Below is the list of assignments for the first Trimester

The Science content will be similar for each grade level this year. Your grades will be based on your grade level expectations and individual skills.

*You will be asked to complete many projects in Science this year, to show what you have learned. To create you projects your only limitation is your imagination.  Some potential project materials are:
Computer programs; Scratch, Snap and others
MakeyMakey electronic boards
Video, stop action video, animation, claymation, etc
Any other materials that you can use to make something with may be used for your projects provided that you can transport them into and out of the school building safely.
Recyclable materials are strongly recommended.
Your project does not have to be electronic or computer based, it can be anything out of your imagination including songs, music and poems.
You must see me before you start a project, and all of your assignments prior to the project must be complete.

Course requirements:
Texts:
Water and the Atmosphere: for the first trimester you will be using the PearsonSuccessNet.com online interactive text. For this you will use your Villa netbook login and password. Assignments have been entered with start and finish-by dates.
Human Biology and Health: during the second trimester you will be using the the PrenticeHall Science Explorer text. Assignments will be handed out when we begin this topic.
Chemical Interactions: during the third trimester you will be using the PrenticeHall Science Explorer text. Assignments will be handed out when we begin this topic.

Assignments:
You should complete a minimum of two assignment sections per week.
All assignments must be successfully completed for each section, before you take the chapter test.

Use as much recyclable material as possible.
You may team up with other students and work in groups to complete a project, all group participants will receive the same score.
You will be expected to share your ideas with your classmates, we learn best what we teach others.
